February 19, 2021 – As POPCOM celebrates its 52nd Anniversary on February 19, 2021, POPCOM-Region II family pledged to continuously provide information and services towards empowering more Filipino families in the Cagayan Valley Region with the theme POPCOM at Pamilyang Planado: Matatag sa Bawat Hamon ng Panahon.

The celebration highlights the continuing initiatives of POPCOM to fulfill its mandate of advocating and promoting the Philippine Population Management Program (PPMP) as the central source of population management information.

With its establishment in 1969 by virtue of Executive Order No. 171 signed by then President Ferdinand E. Marcos, POPCOM has reached milestones as the central and policy-making body of the government in the field of population.

POPCOM-Region II Director Herita O. Macarubbo shared that with the support of local government units (LGUs), regional line agencies (RLAs), civil society organizations (CSOs) and other population stakeholders, POPCOM will sustain its efforts to uplift and touch the lives of every Filipino family in the region.

“We want our efforts to have a long-term impact on the life of every individual, men, women, young and old. Fifty-two years and counting, POPCOM-Region II will strive to enable our clients achieve their aspirations towards a better quality of life,” she added.

As part of the 52nd Anniversary celebration, POPCOM-Region II spearheaded the following activities: (1) The Challenge Initiative Deepening and Advance Sessions on February 16-17; (2) Virtual Training on Pre-Marriage Orientation (PMO) cum PPMP Orientation for the Cities of Ilagan and Santiago on February 17-19; (3) POPCOM Employees Virtual General Assembly on February 22; (4) Post-Valentine Fellowship on February 23; (5) First Quarter Regional Population Executive Board Meeting on February 23; and (6) First Quarter Regional Population Management Committee (RPMC) Meeting on February 24.

To show support to the Commission, other regional government agencies and LGU partners also displayed the anniversary streamer in conspicuous places within their offices and shared in their official and personal Facebook accounts the social media cards about the celebration.

Through the concerted efforts of the Provincial/City and Municipal Population Officers, Barangay Population Workers/Volunteers, academe and other program partners, POPCOM-Region II continues to intensify interventions to address the two pressing population issues in the region, namely: high fertility and high teenage pregnancy.

“We share our modest accomplishments for the past 52 years with our supportive LGU partners because LGUs remain the locus of program implementation,” RD Macarubbo added.

POPCOM-Region II hopes that LGU partners will remain steadfast to the Agency’s battle cry of: “Patuloy na maglilingkod tungo sa matatag, maginhawa at planadong pamilyang Pilipino” amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.#
