A total of 32 young couples and individuals who are members of the different fisherfolk associations in Gonzaga, Cagayan attended the Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning (RPFP) Orientation held at the People’s Gymnasium on December 3, 2021.
Vice-Mayor Jessie Gaspar welcomed the participants in behalf of Mayor Marilyn Pentecostes. He thanked POPCOM-Region II for initiating the activity and pointed out the importance of planning the number, timing and spacing of children.
“Kami at ang gobyerno ay sisiguruhing ang bawat pamilya dito sa Gonzaga ay mabibigyan ng tama at sapat na gabay upang masiguro na makamit ninyo ang ninanais niyong buhay,” VM Gaspar added. He encouraged the participants to listen and apply whatever learnings they will acquire during the orientation.
In addition, POPCOM-Region II Director Herita O. Macarubbo emphasized the benefits of using modern family planning methods especially to those who are not yet ready to have children.
“The government does not dictate the ideal number of children a couple should have, but couples should consider their capacities to provide for all the needs of their children,” RD Macarubbo said.
In her closing message, Ms. Renie Imperio, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer and Municipal Population Officer-Designate of Gonzaga said she will assist and refer the participants who have unmet need for MFP to the rural health unit for the immediate provision of family planning service.
At the end of the activity, participants received RPFP kits containing flyers, face mask, fan and umbrella. LGU Gonzaga also provided grocery items to all attendees.
